Rotator cuff injuries (i.e. impingement, tendonitis, tears) usually happen over time as the tendons experience wear from compression under the acromion process of the shoulder girdle as you begin to lift the arms to the side or lift them overhead.
Contributing factors that may increase the chances of a rotator cuff injury include:
Poor posture: often leads to the development of muscle tension in the chest (pec minor) and upper traps, which disrupts the motion of the shoulder blades relative to the arm (called scapulohumeral rhythm)
Muscle imbalances: Overactive upper traps and pecs, combined with underactive scapular stabilizers affect the shoulder blade's ability to upwardly rotate; reduces the space between the rotator cuff and the acromion, irritating the tendons
Repetitive overhead movements: Can lead to overuse of the rotator cuff muscles and tendons, especially if scapular motion is affected by the above factors
Improving a rotator cuff injury often requires techniques to help overactive muscles relax, and help underactive or weaker muscles become more active and stronger. This combination can help re-educate the muscles to work better together when performing these motions with the arms and shoulder blades.
Aletha's products help reduce tension in overactive muscles that may be related to rotator cuff issues.
Range: releases tension in the chest (pec minor) and upper traps muscles, which disrupts scapulohumeral rhythm and can lead to irritation of the rotator cuff over time; also can be used on the neck and back side of the shoulder
Postural or alignment issues in the upper body can also be impacted by what is happening lower in the body. If the hips and pelvis are twisted, that impacts the alignment of the spine all the way up to the neck and shoulder area.
Mark: releases the iliacus and psoas muscles with precise pressure, restoring alignment of the front of the hips and pelvis
Orbit: releases the piriformis and other deep hip rotators in the glute region with broad pressure, restoring alignment of the back of the hips and pelvis
Band: helps strengthen key muscles around your core, glutes, and hips to create stability around better alignment
Book: our Founder's book Tight Hip, Twisted Core - The Key to Unresolved Pain offers deeper insights into muscle tension and how it is impacting your pain, helping you understand how to address the root cause
When used consistently over time, the Aletha Health products support less muscle tension, better alignment, and increased strength & stability. This combination has helped many people improve their posture, and we hope it will help you too.
For best results, use the Aletha Health products together and alongside other stretches and exercises. Please check with your healthcare practitioner for which stretches and exercises are most appropriate for you.
